(ANSA) - ROME, JUN 5 - The groundbreaking and controversial
accord for Italy to set up and run three migrant centres in
Albania is "of great European scope", Premier Giorgia Meloni
said as she visited the first hotspot processing centre in the
port city of Shengjin along with Prime Minister Edi Rama
Wednesday.
"Italy and Albania are historically friendly nations, which are
used to working together, and I want to thank Prime Minister
Rama and the Albanian people once again for offering their help
and for entering into an agreement with us that has a great
European dimension", she said.
The deal has been criticised as setting up a new Guantanamo but
lauded by several other European leaders who say they may copy
it. (ANSA).
