(ANSA) - ROME, AUG 29 - Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said
Thursday he hoped European Affairs Minister Raffaele Fitto would
become one of the executive vice presidents of the European
Commission after Italy taps him as their candidate for the EC
Friday.
"In the new EU Commission I hope that we can achieve the goal of
having an executive vice-president' for Italy.
"Tomorrow at the council of ministers there will be the
decision, I believe that in the end Fitto will be our
commissioner.
"He has experience, he is the best possible choice, it seems to
me that there is great convergence on his name," said Tajani,
who is also deputy premier.
"I believe he will do well. I hope he will have an important
portfolio. Italy's relations with the European institutions are
important. I am optimistic," said Tajani speaking to the press
after his meetings with EC chief Ursula von der Leyen and EP
President Roberta Metsola in Brussels. (ANSA).
