(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 11 - Premier Giorgia Meloni discussed
Middle East developments with European Commission President
Ursual von der Leyen on the margins of the MED9 summit at Paphos
in Cyprus Friday.
According to reports, the focus of the meeting, in addition to
the most recent developments in the Middle Eastern crisis and
the Ukrainian dossier, was the preparation of next week's
European Council.
The two leaders also focused in particular on migration issues
and the relaunch of European competitiveness, sources said.
EU Med, EuroMed 9, or MED9, from EUrope Mediterranean, also
referred to as "Club Med" and "Med Group", is an alliance of
nine Mediterranean and Southern European Union member states:
Croatia, Cyprus, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal,
Slovenia and Spain.
They are part of the Mediterranean Basin.
All nine countries are states of the European Union, part of the
eurozone (euro currency), and all except Cyprus are part of the
border-free Schengen Area. (ANSA).
