(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 11 - The Italian contingent in UNIFIL told
Israel overnight in would not abandon its bases in Lebanon after
a fresh Israeli attack on one of their bases.
"The Italian soldiers will not abandon the base, as requested by
Israel, the 1,000 strong Italian contingent of UNIFIL reiterated
to the Israeli Defence Force (IDF, Israeli army) after the
Israeli attack that again targeted the 1-31 base in southern
Lebanon.
According to what was learned from qualified security sources
who are following the dossier, the position was reiterated in a
meeting in the night - authorized by the UNIFIL leaders -
between the Italians, who manage the bases in the Western sector
outside the mission's headquarters, and the Israelis, in the
very base that was hit. (ANSA).
