(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 18 - Premier Giorgia Meloni said after
talks in Beirut Friday with Lebanese Prime Minister Najib Mikati
that Israel needed to make a fresh effort at peace in Gaza,
saying that the killing of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar could open
up a window fro a "new season" of peace.
She said she would telephone Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu as soon as her trip to Jordan and Lebanon was over.
"I came here to reiterate Italy's commitment to the ceasefire,"
she told a press conference in Beirut.
"Italy, with other international partners, has proposed a 21-day
ceasefire. Mikati and (Speaker Nabih) Berri have agreed to the
proposal, now an effort is needed from Israel".
She said Sinwar's "disappearance can offer a window for a new
season, a window that must be seized by Israel". (ANSA).
