(ANSA) - ROME, OCT 18 - Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi
on Friday vowed to press on with Italian-run migrant processing
centres in Albania despite a Rome court ruling invalidating the
detention of the first 12 migrants to be sent there, with the
minister saying that the scheme will fulfill the prediction of
European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and other EU
leaders that it will be a model for other countries to emulate
and will become enshrined in European Union law.
"Not only will we move forward with the legal appeals but we
will also move forward with these initiatives because from 2026
what Italy is doing in Albania, and not only, will become
European law", he said.
"What we are doing will become European law," he insisted.
