(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 17 - European Commission Vice-President for Cohesion, Raffaele Fitto, will present the new 'EU Vision for Agriculture and Food' on February 19.
This emerges from the latest agenda of the meeting of the College of Commissioners dated December 3.
While the Commission's agenda is always subject to change, the February date aligns with Ursula von der Leyen's promise to present the vision within the first 100 days of the new mandate, alongside the 'Clean Industry Plan.' Among Fitto's portfolio responsibilities is "leading work to strengthen the competitiveness, resilience, and sustainability of the food and agricultural sector," guiding the work of the EU Agriculture Commissioner, Luxembourg's Christophe Hansen.
The new EU Vision will be directly based on the recommendations of the Dialogue on the Future of Agriculture, a forum launched in January by the President of the European Commission to address the farmers' protests that have disrupted Europe in recent months. It will lay the groundwork for the post-2027 Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), for which a proposal from the European Commission is expected this summer.
"How to ensure a fair standard of living for farmers" and "how to guarantee the sustainability of agriculture within planetary boundaries" will be the key questions at the heart of the strategy, while also considering simplification measures and reciprocity in trade agreements.
#IMCAP Co-funded by the European Union. Views and opinions expressed are however those of the author(s) only and do not necessarily reflect those of the European Union. Neither the European Union nor the granting authority can be held responsible for them.
