VDL's ReArm plan clashes with EU values - Serra

(ANSA) - ROME, MAR 10 - European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen's plan to spend 800 billion euros to rearm Europe clashed with EU values, journalist Michele Serra says in an editorial in la Repubblica Tuesday on the pro-EU demo he has organised in Rome for March 15.
    "I believe that none of the people who will be in the square ignore that the armed response formulated by von der Leyen sadly clashes with the founding values ;;of the European Union," writes Serra, a veeran liberal journalist and commentator.
    "And at the same time, they neglect the need for a common European defense that should have been thought of and put in place ten (twenty? thirty?) years ago, but it is today that forces us to discuss it". (ANSA).
