(ANSA) - ROME, JAN 2 - A 31-year-old Italian animal tamer was
mauled by a tiger at a circus near Lecce last Thursday.
Ivan Orfei, tamer at the Amedeo Orfei Circus, which has been at
Surbo for the last week, suffered deep wounds to the neck and a
leg, medical sources said.
Orfei was rushed to hospital in code red, but he is not in a
life-threatening condition, they said.
The animal attacked him during a performance, for reasons yet to
be established.
The show was stopped after the incident and local police are
investigating.
The tiger has been examined by a vet. (ANSA).
