(ANSA) - ROME, NOV 21 - A patient under the influence of
drugs and alcohol on Thursday attacked a nurse and then a guard
in the waiting room of the ER of the Betania evangelical
hospital in Naples.
The hospital's general director said attacks against doctors,
nurses, operators and security guards have become increasingly
frequent at the Betania, one of two hospitals in the Ponticelli
district of the southern port city.
"We are in a state of war - enough", said Vincenzo Bottino, the
hospital's executive.
As healthcare facilities across Italy have reported a spate of
attacks in recent months against personnel, the Betania said its
personnel has been targeted 15 times since the start of 2024.
"The lives of our operators and the security of patients are in
danger", said Bottino.
"We can't allow a place that provides treatment to become a
theatre of violence", he noted. (ANSA).
