(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 21 - Security will be boosted around
tourist sites and commercial venues, including at Christmas
markets and other potentially sensitive areas, as part of an
order by the central police department to prefectures and
precincts across Italy in the wake of a deadly attack in the
German city of Magdeburg, well-informed sources said Saturday.
The police's circular letter provides for the "immediate
strengthening" of security in areas "that are most attractive
from a touristic and commercial standpoint", where "Christmas
markets and fairs" are organized, as well as sites hosting
"entertainment events" and sensitive targets and areas
considered at risk.
Investigative activities have also been boosted to prevent
potential attacks, according to the sources. (ANSA).
