(ANSA) - ROME, DEC 23 - Italy's first woman flying squad commander has written her autobiography at the age of 91.
The Marche woman, Fernanda Santorsola, dedicates the memoir to the men and women she led for over 20 years in the Adriatic port city and regional capital of Ancona.
The work is entitled "The revenge of memory... when Eve challenged Adam and joined the Police".
Santorsola, whose family came from Puglia, passed the police entrance exam in 1960 and worked in various posts including Brindisi, gaining fame by catching the "Marsala Monster", a man who had abused and killed three little girls.
Appointed Head of the Ancona Flying Squad, the first such position given to a woman in Italy, Santorsola and her team of investigators managed to dismantle several criminal organizations in the Ancona hinterland involved in drug trafficking, robberies, extortions, thefts and other crimes.
Ancona police chiefs attended the presentation of the autobiography at the weekend. (ANSA).
