Brenner Tunnel proceeds, but setback in Germany

It would lengthen construction times

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCT 8 - While excavations for the Brenner Tunnel continue, the Bavarian access route has suffered a setback. CDU and CSU reject Deutsche Bahn's 54-kilometer route between Munich and Kufstein, demanding a reworked project with more tunnels and an underpass under the Inn River. This would not only raise costs, but also lengthen construction times.
According to the Tiroler Tageszeitung, the tunnel should open in 2032, but the access route in Germany will not be completed until after 2050 if Berlin does not give the go-ahead by 2025.
