(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, FEB 6 - "We need to be clear and open: anti-migrant barriers are playing a role. They should not be condemned but financed by the EU. " Greek Deputy Foreign Minister Miltiadis Varvitsiotis said ahead of the beginning of the General Affairs Council in Brussels. The migrants' issue, along with the European response to the Inflation Reduction Act, will be the focus of the meeting, preparing this week's leaders' summit.

Questioned about the words of her Greek counterpart, however, French EU Affairs Minister Laurence Boone was clear: "On migration, discussions focus on the external dimension and the fight against traffickers. The protection of borders is important, but let's be clear, there is no European money to build walls or barriers at the borders." (ANSA).
