(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 6 - For the past two decades, a significant shift in the European electricity production mix has been underway. Coal use in Europe has decreased from 31% to 16%, while natural gas use has increased significantly from 12% to 20%. This is the conclusion of the fifth Med & Italian Energy Report, produced by the Srm, a research institute affiliated with the Intesa Sanpaolo group, and the Esl@Energy Centre of the Polytechnic of Turin. Renewable energies dominate, rising from 15% to 38%, according to the report's data. By 2027, the rate of renewable energy expansion is expected to more than double.
