(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCT 31 - "I ask for forgiveness on behalf
of Germany for the grave crimes committed," said German
President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, speaking in Greek during his
official visit to the Cretan village of Kandanos. The village
was razed to the ground in retaliation by the Nazi army in 1941,
according to the Ana-mpa agency.
