(ANSA) - BRUSSELS, 16 LUG - "Naturally, we are ready to offer opportunities for regular exchanges of views on the economic impact of the war in Ukraine: this also includes necessary in-depth discussions regarding the loan agreed upon within the G7 framework, as well as the continuation of our work." That statement was the response of Hungarian Finance Minister Mihály Varga, speaking on behalf of the EU's rotating presidency, following numerous speeches during the public session of the Ecofin Council dedicated to the presidency's program.
In the document outlining Budapest's program for the EU presidency, particularly in the section on the economy, Ukraine is mentioned only at one point where it states that "the Hungarian presidency will closely monitor the economic and financial consequences of the war in Ukraine." Twenty-one finance ministers or their representatives (for example, France, represented by the Director General of the Treasury, Bertrand Dumont) requested during the Economic Council that the Hungarian presidency keep Ukraine and related financial aid as one of Ecofin's priorities.
