(ANSA) - VILNIUS, DEC 1 - "We strongly support the Georgian
people's aspirations for European integration and their
expressed strong commitment to democratic values. We condemn the
use of force against the Georgian people and call on the
government to end it immediately.
Nauseda reiterated allegations of fraud during Georgia's
October parliamentary elections and called for the appointment
of an independent international investigation to verify their
regularity. Also of similar tenor were the words spoken today
during a telephone conversation with Zurabishvili by the
Estonian president, Alar Karis. "The people of Georgia have
repeatedly expressed their desire to be part of the European
Union. This has been their long-term goal and a promise made to
them by their leaders. The ruling party in Georgia does not have
a mandate to stop the majority's desire and pull the country
away from Europe," Karis said. (ANSA).
