(ANSA) - TRIESTE, NOV 17 - Poland said it scrambled fighter
jets and mobilized all available forces Sunday in response to a
"massive" Russian missile and drone attack on Ukraine. "Due to
a massive attack by Russia, which is carrying out attacks with
cruise missiles, ballistic missiles and drones against sites
located, among other places, in western Ukraine, operations by
Polish and allied aircraft have begun," the Polish Operations
Command announced on the social media platform X. "Due to the
massive attack by the Russian Federation with cruise missiles,
ballistic missiles and drones against facilities, among others,
in western Ukraine, Polish and allied aircraft operations have
begun in our airspace," the Warsaw-based military operations
command wrote on X. Ukraine's Energy Minister German
Galushchenko indicated on Telegram that "a massive attack on the
electricity system is underway" and that Russian forces are
"attacking electricity generation and transmission facilities
across the country." Kiev Mayor Vitali Klitchko reported one
casualty when a drone fragment fell on an apartment building in
the capital. Local authorities and Ukrainian media reported
numerous explosions across the country, particularly in the
south in Zaporizhzhia, Odessa, Mykolaiv, and Chernihiv. In
Poland, the wave of raids on the neighboring country sent
