Kerekes and Glasner's works to open the Trieste Film Festival

(ANSA) - UDINE, 18 DIC - The 36th Trieste Film Festival is set to return with two Italian premieres during its double opening night. Featuring films from the Biennale and Berlinale, the festival presents narratives that intertwine family stories and themes of self-discovery, crossing both physical and personal European boundaries.
    The opening night at Teatro Miela on January 16 will screen Wishing on a Star, directed by Slovak-Hungarian filmmaker Peter Kerekes, while The Score of Life, directed by German filmmaker Matthias Glasner, will open on January 20 at Politeama Rossetti.
    Wishing on a Star, also filmed in Italy's Friuli Venezia Giulia and Campania regions, was presented in the Orizzonti section at the Venice Biennale. The story follows Luciana, a Neapolitan astrologer, who has a unique method for making her clients' wishes come true; they simply need to take a trip to a specific destination on their birthday to be reborn under new celestial configurations.
    The Score of Life is a tragicomic tale filled with themes of illness, love, dysfunctional relationships, and confused parenthood. It won the Silver Bear for Best Screenplay at the latest Berlinale and was named Best German Film of the Year at the Lola Awards.
    During the festival, the Italian National Union of Film Critics will recognize the best films released in theaters over the past year. The Zone of Interest, directed by Jonathan Glazer, has been chosen as the 2024 Film of the Year. It premiered at last year's Trieste Film Festival and went on to win two Academy Awards for Best International Feature Film and Best Sound, as well as the Grand Prix at the Cannes Film Festival and two BAFTA awards for Outstanding British Film and Best Sound. Maura Delpero's Vermiglio has been selected as the 2024 Italian Film of the Year.
    The film, which has already won the Silver Lion and the Grand Prix of the Jury at the Venice Film Festival, is competing to represent Italy at the 2025 Academy Awards in the Best International Feature Film category. (ANSA).
