(ANSA) - BELGRADE, OCT 14 - "Although our goal is to restore full operation of the Schengen system, the temporary reinstatement of border controls has had a deterrent effect on irregular entries. In Italy, approximately 4,900 irregular migrants have been tracked at the border with Slovenia since October 21 (a 50% decrease from the same period the previous year). Of the more than 1,600 people reported following the controls, 262 were arrested, with 135 of them charged with aiding illegal immigration. Matteo Piantedosi, Minister of the Interior, stated this during his fifth trilateral meeting in Zaprešić, Croatia, with Croatian counterpart Davor Bozinović and Slovenian Boštjan Poklukar.
