Rome and Prague's non-paper on cars at EU Transport Council

Informal discussion supported by six capitals

Redazione Ansa

(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 5 - Italy and the Czech Republic are bringing the car issue back to the EU Transport Council's agenda, which is scheduled for today in Brussels. After presenting the informal document on the sector's future to the EU Competitiveness Council, Rome and Prague, with the support of Bulgaria, Poland, Romania, and Slovakia, will encourage ministers to discuss the "various and possible" (Aob) points, without legislative adoption. Austria will not support today's Competitiveness Council discussion despite signing the non-paper. So, the six capitals will insist on moving up from 2026 to 2025 the part of the CO2 regulation that allows for changes. This section stipulates the prohibition of diesel and gasoline engines beyond 2035. (ANSA).
