Rome and 20 EU countries want water security to top Agenda

(ANSA) - STRASBURGO, 17 LUG - Twenty-one EU capitals, including Rome, call for urgent and decisive action at the EU level to enhance water resilience "through innovative solutions, substantial funding, and collaborative approaches." In a letter addressed to European Commission Vice President in charge of the Green Deal, Maroš Šefčovič, and European Commissioner for Climate Action, Frans Timmermans, the capitals described water as a vital and strategic resource that is increasingly under pressure in Europe.
    The governments emphasized, "It is a common challenge, and concrete action is needed to strengthen water security." This issue should be prioritized on the EU political agenda for five years, they underlined.
    In addition to the Minister for Environment and Energy Transition, João Pedro Matos Fernandes, the request—promoted by Portugal—was supported by the ministers of Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Denmark, Estonia, France, Germany, Greece, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, and Spain.
