Monsignor Ettore Malnati receives the Barcola 2024 Award

(ANSA) - TRIESTE, 23 NOV - Monsignor Ettore Malnati, a historical figure in the Trieste diocese, has been awarded the 'Barcola 2024 Prize. The recognition was presented today during a ceremony at the Friuli Venezia Giulia Regional Government building.
    Due to age limits, Monsignor Malnati has retired after nearly fifty years of priesthood and left the Community of Our Lady of Sion in Trieste to return to his home region in the province of Varese.
    "Don Ettore Malnati leaves behind something that did not exist in our city, particularly in the neighborhood of the Community of Our Lady of Sion: a healthy family atmosphere that has supported generations of citizens," said Pierpaolo Roberti, the regional councilor for Local Autonomies.
    Among the various stages of his priestly career, Don Ettore Malnati was the last personal secretary to Bishop Antonio Santin and later also served as diocesan vicar for Culture. Malnati also held the position of episcopal delegate for the Service of the Causes of Saints and was a consultant to the Holy See for writing the speeches of the last three Popes.
    As Roberti explained, Monsignor Malnati has been "a prominent figure in Trieste over these fifty years, becoming a reference point not only in religious circles but also in cultural and social entourages." (ANSA).
