(ANSA) - BELGRADE, DEC 5 - The US has warned of "serious
negative consequences" if Romania distances itself from the
West, following Calin Georgescu's victory in the first round of
the presidential elections. "Foreign actors seeking to shift
Romania's foreign policy away from its Western alliances cannot
undermine Romania's efforts to anchor itself to the
transatlantic community," State Department spokesman Matthew
Miller said in a statement, referring to the authorities in
Bucharest's accusations of Russian interference in the
elections, ahead of the second round next Sunday.
