(ANSA) - GORIZIA, JUL 18 - The extremely high temperatures and dry climate of these hours have favored the outbreak of a fire this morning near Mount Trstelj in the municipal area of Kostanjevica na Krasu, in the Slovenian Karst. According to reports, about 100 firefighters are already operating, also using aircraft.
Smoke is visible from dozens of kilometers away, affecting Italian territory as well, in the same areas that were devastated by the fires of summer 2022: Doberdò del Lago, Fogliano Redipuglia, Ronchi dei Legionari.
The port authority of Monfalcone (GO) has authorized Slovenian Canadair planes to refuel in the gulf in front of the Marina Julia beach. Italian firefighters and the Fvg Civil Protection are on alert and ready to intervene in support of their colleagues across the border.
To monitor the situation of the forest fires in the Slovenian Karst, the mayor of Gorizia, Rodolfo Ziberna, has canceled all his institutional commitments for today and is personally following the developments of the situation. (ANSA).
