(ANSA) - ROMA, 14 APR - Balinese people burn a sarcophagus in
the form of a bull at a cemetery during the grand royal
cremation of Tjokorda Bagus Santaka, a Ubud royal family member,
in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia, 14 April 2024. Pelebon ceremony is
held to bid farewell to the deceased and release their soul from
the physical body. The centerpiece of the ceremony is the ornate
funeral tower called the 'Bade', which carries the body to the
cremation site during a grand procession accompanied by
musicians, dancers, and mourners. The ceremony reflects the
Balinese belief in the cyclical nature of life and death and
involves community participation to honor the departed's journey
to the afterlife. (ANSA).
