(ANSA) - ROMA, 07 NOV - Polish truckers stand on a roadside
as they take part in a protest blocking the Polish-Ukrainian
border in Korczowa village, south-eastern Poland, 07 November
2023. The protest comes amid an economic slowdown in Europe and
a relaxation of regulations for Ukrainian transport companies in
2022 by the European Union. Several dozen owners of transport
companies blocked three major Polish border crossings with
Ukraine to protest what they say is unfair competition from the
neighboring country's businesses. Apart from reinstating the EU
entry permits, the truckers' second biggest concern was dealing
with procedures upon returning back to Poland from Ukraine. 'The
Ukrainian side has created an electronic queue system, where a
carrier wanting to enter Poland must register. The waiting time
is around 11 or 12 days,' co-organiser of the protest, Rafal
Mekler said. (ANSA).
