    Thailand commemorates the 20th anniversary of the 2004 Indian Ocean tsunami, which struck on 26 December 2004, triggered by a 9. 2 magnitude earthquake in the Indian Ocean off the west coast of northern Sumatra, Indonesia. The tsunami claimed over 220,000 lives, internally displaced more than half a million people, and left hundreds of thousands without livelihoods, according to the United Nations, making it one of the deadliest natural disasters in history.
