One Italian teenager tries to commit
suicide every day, the national federation of paediatricians
(FIMP) said Thursday.
"Eevery day in our country a girl or a boy, adolescent and also
pre-adolescent, attempts suicide," said FIMP President Antonio
D'Avino at the body's national congress at Riva del Garda.
"Cases have risen by 75% in the last two years.
"And 100,000 youngsters have chosen the path of social death,
the so-called 'hikikomori', isolated in their rooms, fleeing
from interaction with the world, overwhelmed by fear of being
judged, on their own.
"These are shocking numbers, due to a post-COVID fall-out".
