A migrant who works as a security guard at a supermarket in Verona stopped an armed robbery by capturing a young man from Maghreb armed with a knife, thus obtaining a residence permit for his courage, security forces said on Saturday.
Before the attempted armed robbery, the migrant had also repeatedly intervened as a security guard to prevent small robberies and was also punched and hit with a bottle on a couple of occasions, earning the nickname of "neighbourhood's angel" which was given to him by supermarket employees and locals, according to the sources.
After aiding police to arrest the youngster who attempted the armed robbery, the local police chief awarded him a prize as "friend of the police", security forces said.
Now the man has obtained his long-awaited residence permit, which requires a lengthy procedure, which was bestowed to him personally by the police commissioner of Verona, Roberto Messucci.
