A 24-year-old mother died in the
night between Friday and Saturday in the town of Fondi near
Latina, while her son, who is just a few months old, was
critically injured.
The woman's 22-year-old partner who was allegedly driving the
car under the influence and his sister were taken to hospital.
The 22-year-old tested positive to alcohol and drugs and was
placed under house arrest after being released from the
hospital.
The child was taken to a Rome hospital by helicopter.
Both the driver's sister and child are in critical condition.
According to police investigating the accident, the Volkswagen
Golf on which the five passengers were travelling went off the
road and turned over without crashing with any other vehicle.
