More than half a million people have
taken to the streets in Italy to protest against the 2025 budget
bill as part of Friday's general strike, CGIL leader Maurizio
Landini said Friday.
"If we put together the numbers of all those who decided to take
to the streets today, we can safely say that more than 500,000
people throughout Italy chose to be in the streets to defend the
freedom and rights of all", said Landini at a demo in Bologna.
CGIL, Italy's biggest and most leftwing union, called the strike
together with the third-biggest and former Socialist union, UIL.
The third of the Big Three confederations, former Christian
Democrat CSIL; did not call the strike.
