An important moment ahead of Expo 2025 has been celebrated at the Shinkansai steel plant, just a few kilometres away from the site of the upcoming Universal Exhibition in Osaka, where the Japanese steel producers, with the support of Japan's government and METI (Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry), have successfully inaugurated an innovative electric power system of melting furnaces.
This state-of-the-art technology, entirely developed by the Danieli group through its controlled arm Danieli Automation, represents a true revolution in the steel sector.
The system enables the exclusive use of recycled items as raw material and introduces variable-frequency fusion, with significant advantages: saving 10% of energy; increasing productivity of a plant by up to 20% with equal power; zero impact on electrical networks; compatibility with any type of renewable energy thanks to the direct connection to a digital system.
This innovation, according to a note, marks a fundamental step in the transition towards Green Steel.
The statement stressed the commitment of Danieli and Japan for a highly efficient sustainable future.
During Expo Osaka 2025, Danieli, a sponsor of the Italy Pavilion, will moreover present an extraordinary event: a unique concert in the world during which a digital electrical furnace will be used as a musical instrument - a celebration of technology, creativity and sustainability.
Mario Vattani, the commissioner general for Italy at Expo Osaka 2025, commented: "Danieli's presence as partner of the Italy Pavilion allows us to present to the world not only one of Italy's technological excellencies, but also to stress how these innovations are conceived to respond to global sustainability targets. Green Steel represents the future, and we are proud to contribute to a change that unites innovation, respect of the environmental and international vision".
Antonello Mordeglia, president of Danieli Automation, also stressed the importance of the project: "We are proud of contributing to the transformation of the steel sector as a technology that not only improves productive efficiency, but fully respects sustainability criteria. This collaboration with Japan enables us to show how innovation and environmental responsibility can travel together".
Danieli's presence among the protagonists of the Italy Pavilion will allow to show on a global stage how collaborations between Italian and Japanese companies can generate revolutionary solutions, stressing Italy's central role in innovation and sustainability.
