A 21-year-old man was sentenced to
life imprisonment Wednesday night for burning alive his
17-year-old girlfriend in a jealous fit near Palermo on January
23-24 2020.
Pietro Morreale, from Caccamo, was found guilty of hitting
Roberta Siragusa over the head with a rock, pouring petrol onto
her body and setting it alight after squabbling at a dinner with
friends.
She was reportedly still alive when he put her body into the
trunk of his car before throwing it into a ditch the following
day, prosecutors said.
There was a wealth of evidence against Morreale including CCTV
footage of Siragusa burning near his car, her keys and blood
found at the scene of the crime, a sports field at Caccamo, and
over 30 episodes of violence that happened during their
months-long relationship.
Blood stains were also found in his car.
The court heard that Siragusa burned for five minutes before
Morreale loaded her into his car boot.
The crime shocked Italy.
