Italian MEP Francesca Donato on
Monday made an appeal for people and the media to stop
speculating about the mysterious death of her husband Angelo
Onorato at the weekend.
Onorato, a 54-year-old architect who also ran a furniture shop,
was found dead in his SUV vehicle with a cable tie around his
neck on Saturday in the Palermo area.
"I am going through the most difficult, devastating moments of
my life," Donato said via X.
"The pain is unimaginable. I ask everyone to refrain from
speculating about my husband's cause of death.
"Investigations are underway, let's let the police work.
"I thank all those who have had words of affection for my
beloved Angelo and have shown closeness and solidarity for my
family in these terrible moments.
"There have been so many and each one is precious to me".
Donato was elected to the European Parliament in 2019 as a
candidate for the right-wing League but she subsequently left
the party and last year joined the New Christian Democracy
group.
