Some 70% of women in Italy are
sexually harassed at work at some time in their careers with
managers suffering more than others, according to a report out
Tuesday.
The report from the Libelulla (Dragonfly) Foundation found 70%
of the 11,201 women polled had suffered verbal sexual
harassment, including compliments and allusions that bothered
them greatly.
Some 40% had had unwanted physical contact, 43% had been
subjected to advances of a sexual nature, and 27% has been the
subject of unrequested demands and compliments of a sexual
nature.
The report, entitled Ti Tocca, a play on words between He
Touches You and It's Your Turn, said the "unacceptable"
situation was even worse for woman in top positions, with 77% of
managers and 75% of executives reporting they had been subjected
to disquieting remarks on their physical appearance, 76% of
managers and 79% of executives reporting sexist remarks about
other women, and 54% of female entrepreneurs and 47% of
managers saying they had had unwanted physical contact.
