Commemorating the WWII bomb raids on Dresden

An estimate 35,000 people were killed by Allied Forces bombing

14 February, 12:33
(ANSA) - DRESDEN, 14 FEB - People joined hands to form a human chain along the Elbe river opposite of the Dresden skyline to commemorate the destruction of the city during World War II, yesterday evening in Dresden, Germany.

An estimate 35,000 people were killed when Allied Forces bombed the centre of Dresden at the end of WWII on 13 and 14 February 1945.

The thousands of victims of the allied bomb raids are commemorated annually on 13 February while right-wing extremists groups increasingly use the occasion for rallys.

The Church of Our Lady that was totally destroyed during the raids was rebuilt with international donations and funding, and this was seen as a major gesture of reconciliation and peace from the formerly warring sides after the war. (ANSA).
