Employment has grown among immigrants in Italy, with 22,000 more finding a job in 2013, according to the 20th annual report on immigration drafted by the Ismu Foundation - Institute for the study of multiethnicity - and presented Monday in Milan.
However, the report said, 501,000 Italians lost their job
last year, bringing the number of employed down to 20,064,000.
According to data released by Eurostat, jobs offered to
immigrants are mainly low-scale with 29% of foreigners employed
in a menial job - against 7% of Italians.
Also, 52% are skilled workers, 13% are white-collar workers
and only 5% have a managerial position against 35.9% of
Italians.
According to the Ismu study, less than one in 10 foreigners
with a high school or college degree has a skilled job.
Over four out of 10 are overqualified for their job, a
percentage which climbs to 50% for female workers.
