Investigators into the deadly
Norman Atlantic ferry fire told the medical examiner Monday that
some of the victims may have been attacked by sharks.
The charred vessel from the deadly December 28 fire that
killed at least 11 people and forced the rescue of more than 400
others was towed to the southern port city of Brindisi on
January 2.
Autopsies are to be carried out on nine recovered bodies.
Investigators said wounds on one of the bodies resembled
shark bites, and said that a marine biologist will be present at
autopsy.
As well, Brindisi Mayor Mimmo Consales reiterated that the
city would allow the charred ferry to remain for two months at
the most.
Consales earlier this month said the fire-ravaged wreck
would have to leave the city's port within that time frame for
"both security and environmental reasons".
