A Pakistani shopkeeper is being
investigated for beating up his wife when she refused to wear an
Islamic veil, sources said Friday.
The man, 31, is under a restraining order pending the
investigation on charges of battery and bodily harm.
"He said I could wear jeans but then he always found an
excuse to beat me up, saying they were too tight," the victim
told investigators after she ran away from home with the
couple's two children and reported her husband to police.
"Same thing for the veil - when I said I didn't want to
wear it, he beat me up".
She said the domestic abuse went on for a year. She moved
to Italy in March 2015.
