Rome's 24,000 municipal workers
will stage a "general strike" on May 25 to press for a new
contract, Italy's big three union federations, CGIL, CISL and
UIL, announced Wednesday.
"It's long past time when the workers should have renewed
their contract," the unions said.
Rome is going itno June 5 mayoral elections like other big
cities around Italy including Milan, Naples, Bologna and Turin.
