The Italian rightwing Northern
League party said Friday that it would be filing a complaint
with the interior ministry after a collective Muslim prayer at
the Colosseum to protest the shuttering of unauthorized prayer
halls throughout the capital.
Barbara Saltamartini, deputy caucus leader of Northern
League Lower House MPs, said that "there are over 100
unauthorized houses of worship in Rome, often pretending to be
cultural associations, in locations that are entirely outside
the control of the authorities. This is a disgrace that must not
be ignored. This is why I will ask the interior ministry how
such a thing could have been authorized."
