One person was killed and four
injured including three children when an overpass collapsed onto
State Highway 36 between Milan and Lecco Friday, sending an
articulated lorry crashing down onto cars below. More victims
are feared. The children were taken to hospital in code yellow,
as was the fourth person hurt, the lorry driver. The collapse
happened between Cesana Brianza and Annone, highway company ANAS
said. Traffic was halted in both directions. ANAS said it had
asked for the road to be closed before the collapse but the
provincial government demanded a formal order.
