Defence Minister Roberta Pinotti said Tuesday that she was willing to agree to Milan Mayor Giuseppe Sala's request to station more soldiers there to beef up the security presence in the northern city.
She said the Strade Sicure operation featuring soldiers had had "extremely positive outcomes" including a "30% reduction in crimes in Rome".
She added that some of the 1,800 troops employed for the
Catholic Church's Jubilee of Mercy, which is coming to an end,
could be used.
