European Union sources said Tuesday that "we do not expect a breakthrough" on the issue of migrant arrivals at the European summit in Salzburg. The sources said Premier Giuseppe Conte will present his proposal to overhaul the Sophia naval mission in the Mediterranean, which Rome says currently puts too much of the burden of rescued migrants on Italy.
They said the other EU member States were aware of these proposals because "they were discussed during the summer".
The sources added that the hope is that the States can put the recent "resentment" over this issue behind them and "return to being constructive".
