Gemme is set to be named commissioner for Genoa after the August
14 bridge collapse that killed 43, government sources said
Friday.
Gemme, 70, is head of the shipbuilding group which is tipped
to get the contract to rebuild the bridge.
His name is said to enjoy broad support among the
anti-migrant
Eusoskeptic League, one of the two government partners along
with the anti-establshment 5-star Movement.
A Genoa native, he has relatives among the evacuees who lived
under the bridge.
His previous jobs include spells at aerospace giant
Finmeccanica, now Leonardo, and at engineering group Ansaldo.
He has had long stints abroad including in Russia, Germany
and Japan.
President Sergio Mattarella signed a government decree on the
Genoa disaster on Friday.
It will enable reconstruction.
