France and Germany are "taking
the mickey" out of Italy on assigning France's United Nations
Security Council seat to the European Union, Premier Giuseppe
Conte told Corriere della Sera Friday.
The recent Franco-German Aachen Treaty said Germany had a
priority interest in getting a seat, he said.
Germany said Friday a UN seat had been "our goal for some
time" and this should not come as a surprise.
The Aachen Treaty is not against any other members but in
favour of the EU," said Chancellor Angela Merkel's spokesman
Steffen Seibert.
