Interior Minister Matteo
Salvini on Monday assured Italy's attention that the safety of
self-proclaimed Venezuelan interim president Juan Guaidò should
be preserved.
Salvini had a "cordial" phone call with national assembly
president Guaidò during a meeting with a Venezuelan delegation
sent by him to Rome Monday.
Salvini, the interior ministry said, "confirmed the tough
stance taken regarding (President Nicolas) Maduro" and "full
support for the constitutional course to arrive at free
elections as soon as possible".
Deputy Premier Salvini also "assured the utmost attention
that the safety of Guaidò and his family be protected in this
delicate phase".
