A school bus driver taking children on a trip to Tuscany has been stopped in an obvious state of drunkenness.
One of the teachers accompanying the middle-school students said that he had smelled alcohol on the driver's breath and that he had continued to sip a red beverage from a bottle.
Highway police intervened in Parma and stopped the driver.
The 52-year-old man from the Varese province had left
Lombardy in the morning with 23 students and their accompanying
teachers for a year-old trip to Tuscany.
He tested positive for high levels of alcohol in a
breathalyzer test, after which his driving license was taken
from him and the vehicle was stopped. Another bus was made
available for the trip, which continued with a different driver.
The man is subject to a fine of as much as 9,000 euros and
will be fired if found guilty.
